Veterans Day
Essay
I wouldn’t be here
or be the person I am today if it weren’t for the Veterans that fought for my
freedom. I know that I wouldn’t last all the training and sacrifices I would
have to do. However I am proud of all the Veterans that did make it. Veterans
are important to me because of all my family members that fought in Wars.
My great grandpa Elwood
Diehl was in the Army Air Corp which is now called the Air Force and he fought
in World War 2. My great uncle Donavan Diehl was in the Army and fought in the Vietnam
War. My grandpa Butch, Paul Shenefelt, was in the army and fought in the
Vietnam War. My grandpa Ron was in the Army National Guard. Lavon Shenefelt was
in the Army Air Corp. Uncle Gene Selman was in the army and fought in the
Vietnam war. My great uncle Rex Selman was in the Navy. Currently, I have two
cousins who are serving, Brandon Woodard Navy and Alan Nelson Air Force. And
now I have a brother Connor Woodin that is currently in San Antonio for basic
training in the Air force. I am happy for my brother going into the air force,
but I will miss him dearly because I won’t be able to see him until January. In
the Words of Greg Blackburn, “I go into the army so that parents, sisters,
brothers, friends, and neighbors could sleep at night.”
Veterans Day is
important to me because of all my family members that risked their lives for my
freedom. All the basic training and sacrifices they had to do so I could hang
out with friends, go out to eat with my family, and even ride a bike. Thinking
of all the memorials around the U.S. that honor Veterans and their duty to
serve so that I could talk to you about this special day.
I was told many stories
from my grandpa and Mr. Blackburn about war. I remember when my grandpa told me
his crew almost died when they came upon a python. I was terrified when Mr.
Blackburn was talking about him almost dying twice because of an airplane
almost crashing. Thinking of all the reasons of how these amazing and brave
veterans could have died so that I could sleep under the same roof as my family.
They gave up their every day lives to be a true hero.
To all the people that are in the Air Force, Navy, Army,
Marines, and National coast guards, “We are the home of the free because of the
brave.” Thank you
